“May Moon Outside My Window,” chalk pastel by Maria Theresa Maggi
Hello Friends, Welcome to Maria’s StarGarden and the Taurus new moon horoscopes for May 7, 2024. As I begin I like to ask that the forces of love and light surround me and bless my communication with you all.
The moon is new at 18 degrees Taurus of the tropical zodiac on May 7, 2024 at 8:42 PM Pacific Daylight Time. Taurus is the second sign of the tropical zodiac and the first earth sign. It is also the first of the fixed signs, which bring us experience in order to gain understanding and fulfill karmic will.. Taurus is symbolized by the bull, and it rules the throat in the physical body. Taurus requires the we ground ourselves. It rules over the material stuff—literally—that we need to do so. It is the foundation we build our mental awareness on when we move on to Gemini. And it is the stopping point for the fire of first beginnings in Aries to root, which makes it possible to go on, and to thrive, rather than flame and burn out.
Rooting is a mysterious process we don’t usually see very clearly but it has to do with the search for sustenance. The leaves reach up for the sun but without the roots searching for minerals in the soil, that activity can’t last long enough to propagate well. Taurus energy knows the power of the dirt. I remember being impressed to learn from a friend of mine who used to be a smoke jumper years ago that when they would get dropped into the forest at the site the fire was advancing, what they did was dig a trench in the earth; they were basically burying fire. Most of us focus on the water used to put out fires (and sadly these days, chemicals). So it’s worth remembering that what we walk on every day, what we wash off our hands and our vegetables, what we consider “dirty” has the power to put out fire.
And while we often downplay or tend to dismiss or make fun of “playing in the dirt,” and we emphasize getting cleaned up, there’s also research that says literally getting our hands in the dirt can actually raise our emotional mood and provide significant help with depression. I am reminded of a Bioneers radio program years ago that featured a Black woman who had a strange weakness in her arm that changed her life. I don’t remember the details, but she had suffered some neurological injury to it that had left her unable to provide for herself in her former profession (which was something technical and hands on like electrical wiring). I don’t remember why but she was at a low point and decided to literally bury her arm in the dirt for some minutes every day—which surprised even her. As she did this, she healed her arm, and went on to become an advocate for gardening and its healing power in her community. This new Taurus moon’s proximity to Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus carries just this kind of unlikely yet miraculous life changing synchronicity. This new moon we expect the unexpected, surprise gifts, a revision of our own history, especially where financially security or sensory or sensual foundations are concerned. We’re likely to feel a sea change, a big shift, or even a release of a big energetic “tap root” that’s been keeping us stuck. We might get a chance to replant ourselves at this time.
