“Growing Back By Moonlight,” chalk pastel by Maria Theresa Maggi
The moon is full at 27 degrees Cancer of the tropical zodiac at 3:49 PM Pacific Standard Time. The edges of a bowl-like shape feature the Cancer Full moon in a tight inconjunct with Mars at 25 degrees Sagittarius. This rock-between-a-hard-place aspect suggests that at this time the starting point of legal, educational, historical or spiritual issues that affect the public must be consciously adjusted to match public need and sway. The first thing that came to mind for me is that this full moon falls on the deadline Senate Majority Leader Schumer has designated as the deadline by which he will bring voting rights legislation to floor for discussion. So this full moon could well be a public reckoning for the format or fate of the filibuster, which so many of us want to see eliminated or reformed in order to allow our democracy to function fairly and properly, as the framers intended.
An inconjunct between the energies of Cancer and Sagittarius does suggest a push and pull between large philosophical or legal or religious viewpoints rushing ahead without regard to the details that nurture and sustain us. While Cancer is the home of personal emotional instinct, memory and nurturance assigned to the moon, it also functions as a thermometer for public feeling and opinion and how that is swayed by powerful emotion. That’s why we also see its energy prominent in banking and finance. While Sagittarius values history as an impetus for further exploration and expansion, Cancer values the past as a way to preserve emotional stability, both on a personal and societal level. So members of the public, likely female public figures, may be speaking up passionately in defense of those who are being overwhelmed, sickened, and left without financial security because their voices are not being heard due to insistence on a constant move forward that actually leaves too many people behind.
