“Summer Half Moon Surprise,” chalk pastel by Maria Theresa Maggi
The moon is new at 21 degrees Virgo of the tropical zodiac at 6:40 PM Pacific Daylight Time on September 14, 2023. Virgo is the sixth sign of the tropical zodiac and the second earth sign after Taurus and before Capricorn. Virgo is a sign of preparation. Its place on the wheel of the zodiac is just below the horizon. Once we cross that horizon into Libra, we begin our response to partnership and to all our associations with the world at large. In Virgo, we prepare for that journey all the way through to Pisces by attending to our health and to our everyday work routines, and by learning how to be of service. In Virgo, we ground through practice and preparation, whether it’s through stitching, mathematical computation, editing words, or measuring to further a recipe or a research project. Since there’s so much of that energy generated by Virgo, it can sometimes bring us into the weeds seeking perfection, even as we try to pull those weeds using the best method for the earth we know of.
In the physical body, Virgo rules the digestive system and the processes of assimilation that help us absorb the nutrients from our food.
Virgo is a humble sign, in significant esoteric preparation for the balance of give and take in partnership once we cross over that horizon line into Libra. So Virgo is learning selfless service, or service on behalf of the other. Her critical eye is often turned inward. So anytime you hear Virgo criticizing the way something is done, know somewhere in her heart she’s blaming herself, even if there is no logical way she could have been responsible.
Virgo has David against Goliath energy. She takes on the big problems with her slingshot and she aims as true as she knows how.
